Product Description
Hill's s/d - Urinary Care - Prescription Diet - Canine
Hill's s/d Canine has been formulated by veterinarians to dissolve struvite crystals and stones in dogs. Struvite is formed as a result of urine saturated with protein, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium combined with an elevated urine pH. Increased energy content in food reduces the intake of food and therefore also the absorption of minerals. Lower levels of magnesium, phosphorus and protein reduce the concentration of struvite building blocks. Increased sodium content increases urine volume.
Struvite crystals or stones in dogs' urinary tract
Disorders of the urinary tract are often caused by the formation of mineral crystals and stones in the urinary tract that can produce blood in the urine, bladder infection, and may even cause a life-threatening obstruction. In dogs, struvite crystals generally cause urinary tract disorders.

This diet food is not suitable for: Pregnant or lactating dogs, puppies, dogs receiving urinary acidifiers, dogs that have just had surgery for bladder stones, dogs with bladder stones other than struvite, dogs with heart, kidney or liver failure, dogs with hyperlipidaemia or (at increased risk of) pancreatitis.
