Havana

The Havana is very attached to its owner and does not like being left alone for long periods. It enjoys the company of other cats and thrives in a multi-cat household. This medium-sized cat is active and playful, while its coat requires minimal maintenance.

Temperament

The Havana is an energetic cat with a lively and playful personality. It can be cautious around strangers but is never aggressive. Havanas appreciate peace and comfort. This friendly breed is gentle and deeply devoted to its owner. It is slightly less vocal than the Siamese and has a softer voice. Weekly brushing is sufficient to maintain its coat.

Physical characteristics

Colour

Chocolate, chestnut, and hazelnut brown. Lilac also occurs. The whiskers and nose leather are brown, while the paw pads are pink.

Body, legs, and tail

The Havana has a medium-sized body with a moderately developed bone structure. It can have a balanced build (American type) or a slender and long frame (English type). The muscles are firm. The legs are long and slender but not too thin. The feet are oval and compact. The tail is of medium length, not too broad at the base, and tapers towards the tip.

Head, ears, and eyes

The Havana’s head is longer than it is wide. The English type has an Oriental appearance, while the American type has a slightly triangular head. Full cheeks are allowed in males. The muzzle is square and long, with a strong, square chin. Havanas have large ears with rounded tips, set wide apart. The ears are sparsely furred, especially on the inner side. The eyes are large, oval, and positioned close to the nose base. All shades of green are acceptable for eye colour.

Coat

The Havana has a silky, glossy coat. The short, fine fur lies close to the body. The undercoat is not too dense. A slightly fluffier coat texture is permitted in lilac-coloured Havanas.

Weight

The Havana weighs between 2.5 and 4.5 kg.
