Nebelung

Nebelung is German for ‘mist creature’, referring to the misty coat colour of the Nebelung cat. This medium-sized cat is very calm and enjoys the company of its owner. It dislikes noise and is unlikely to thrive in a household with young children. The Nebelung generally gets along well with other cats but tends to be reserved around strangers.

Nebelung

Characteristics

Country of origin: United States
Body build: Medium-sized and long
Weight: 2.5 to 5 kg

Temperament

The Nebelung has a calm and cheerful nature. It takes time to observe before approaching strangers and does not easily allow itself to be petted by them. However, it is very attached to its owner and other household members. Nebelung cats dislike noise and may struggle in a household with young children. While they enjoy companionship to some extent and tolerate fellow cats reasonably well, they also value their peace and quiet. Despite their preference for tranquillity, they do enjoy playing from time to time.

Physical characteristics

Colour

Originally, the Nebelung had a blue coat. Nowadays, it is also bred in other colours, including black and white.

Body, legs, and tail

The Nebelung has a medium-sized, fairly long body that should neither be too delicate nor too robust. The legs are long and slender with small, oval paws. The tail is long, not too broad, and tapers towards the end.

Head, ears, and eyes

The Nebelung’s head is broad and wedge-shaped, though not overly long. The nose profile is straight. The ears are relatively large, broad at the base, and taper to a point, with minimal fur on the ear shell. The Nebelung has almond-shaped eyes set wide apart, with an intense green colour.

Coat

The Nebelung has a double coat, which can be either long or semi-long. The fur is fine and silky to the touch.
