Supplements
Supportive supplements play an important role in the recovery of our animals. They help increase resistance and promote overall well-being. Are you looking for a product that helps with smoother joints, strengthens the immune system, or does your dog need extra energy after illness or surgery? You can find all of this and more in our extensive pharmacy.
Joints
Supplements can play an important role in supporting and maintaining smooth joints. Ingredients such as glucosamine, chondroitin, and omega-3 fatty acids help maintain healthy cartilage and joint lubrication. These supplements can be especially useful for older dogs or breeds that are prone to joint problems. By giving supplements like Dr. Ann’s Mobility Support Plus, Puur Osteo, and Groene Os Glucosamine, you can improve your dog’s mobility, allowing them to stay active and playful for longer.
Resistance
Supplements can help boost resistance. Supplements like Puur Echina and Phytonics Immu Boost are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that contribute to strengthening the immune system. Especially after periods of stress, changes in seasons, after illness, or with aging dogs, they can be very valuable.
Extra Energy
After a recovery period, supplements with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids can help improve the energy levels in your dog’s body. They support metabolism, promote muscle recovery, and improve overall vitality. With these supplements, your dog can recover more quickly after illness or surgery. Examples include Canina Immuun Booster, Vetoquinol Care Energy, and Virbac Nutribound.
Protective Shirts
After surgery, it’s important to support your dog’s recovery as best as possible. A medical shirt may sometimes be necessary. A Medical Petshirt protects your dog’s surgical wound from scratching, biting, and licking, reducing the risk of infection. Wearing a collar can sometimes be avoided, which contributes to a relaxed recovery. If protection for a paw or ear is needed, there are also covering shirts available to protect a wound in these areas. If your pet has undergone surgery requiring a collar, make sure to get it well in advance so that your dog can get used to wearing it before the procedure. Note: Not all surgeries require protection, so consult with your vet if in doubt.
Wound Care
Disinfection
If your dog has a superficial wound, it is important to keep it clean. You can gently rinse the wound with clean, lukewarm water to remove dirt and bacteria. Then, you can easily disinfect the wound with a mild disinfecting solution, such as Betadine.
Honey Ointment
Honey ointment is a natural remedy that contributes effectively to wound care. It supports the skin’s healing ability and has antibacterial properties. Additionally, honey ointment keeps the wound moist, which aids healing and minimizes scar formation. It can be applied to various types of wounds, such as cuts, scrapes, and burns. It also has a soothing effect. Therefore, honey ointment is a valuable addition to your dog’s first aid kit.
Note: Do not use ointments and disinfectants on a surgical wound unless advised otherwise by your vet. Unsure about the right choice for your dog? Contact our veterinary team at [email protected].
