Why Joring?

Joring is an excellent way to teach your dog to follow commands and ignore distractions. Since you’re moving at a relatively fast pace, it’s important for safety that your dog listens to your instructions. The dog also needs to learn to ignore distractions like a rabbit running past. Joring strengthens the bond between dog and owner through trust in the owner’s guidance. The sport is especially suitable for pulling breeds such as the Alaskan Malamute and the Siberian Husky.

What Should You Pay Attention To?

Joring should be trained on soft ground to avoid damaging your dog’s paw pads. Start with short distances to gradually build up your dog’s stamina. Bikejoring is quite demanding on the dog and requires top physical condition. Therefore, the sport is only suitable for dogs in good health.

Competitions

You can participate in bikejoring competitions. For this, the dog must be at least 18 months old. An exemption and a veterinary certificate are also required. Competitions usually take place in wooded areas with courses ranging from 4 to 8 kilometers long.
