It is not unusual for your dog's intestines to host up to 400 different species of bacteria. They support the digestive system of your dog and keep him or her in good general health. For any mammal, it is important that the balance of good and bad bacteria is maintained. However, there are several factors in the life of your dog can that can disturb this balance, such as:
- Courses of antibiotics
- Changes in diet
- Stress (staying in kennels, long journeys etc.)
- Ageing.
Any of these factors may disrupt of the balance of the microflora in the digestive system of your dog.
Probiotics
Probiotics contain live microbes: as these are introduced into your dog's digestive system, they help to improve the balance of microflora in the intestines and thus the health of the digestive system. The probiotic in Fidavet Kaodyn is Enterococcus faecium, which produces lactic acid. As a result, the pH (acidity) in the intestines of your dog is reduced, making it a less suitable environment for harmful bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella.
Prebiotics
Prebiotics are non-digestible carbohydrates which help good bacteria in the intestines flourish. Fidavet contains two types of prebiotic: fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which can increase the amount of good bacteria and can reduce the amount of harmful bacteria, and mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) which can counteract the colonisation of harmful bacteria and strengthen your dog's immune system.
Use
- Puppies and small dogs: 1 to 2 ml, 2 or 3 times a day.
- Large dogs: up to 5 ml, 2 or 3 times a day.
- Use for as long as is necessary.
There are no restrictions on the use of Kaodyn.
