The use of green clay in dogs and horses

Written by Milou |

Green clay, also known as green loam, has a powerful cleansing effect. Of all types of clay, it is the most potent. The clay gets its green colour from the minerals, oxides and hydroxides it contains. Its effectiveness comes from drying the clay in the sun. Green clay products are not suitable for cats!

Healing properties of clay

Clay is a living, intelligent substance, rich in minerals, trace elements and enzymes. All types of clay have a cleansing and strengthening effect. The colour of the clay is related to the minerals in it, which also determines its effects. Green clay has the strongest cleansing effect of all clays.

The properties of green clay

Green clay has several properties. It draws toxins out of the body while releasing minerals/ions. As a result, it has the following effects on the body:

Stimulates circulation
Supports the skin’s natural healing ability
Soothes local inflammations
Clears subcutaneous bruises/bleeding
Rejuvenates the skin
Stimulates the immune system
Acts as a drawing salve
It thus offers natural support for skin problems.

The use of green clay in dogs and horses

Green clay is suitable for external use in dogs and horses. A well-known product is Vertargil. This is available in various forms:

Vertargil coarse, which you can use to make a paste for application to the skin.
Vertargil superfine, which creates a smoother paste than Vertargil coarse, making it also suitable for example as a facial mask for humans.
Vertargil paste, which is ready to use and has tea tree and lavender added.
Green clay is a great product, but due to its strong effects, it is not safe for all animals. Always consult your vet before using it.
