Product Description
Hill's y/d - Thyroid Care - Prescription Diet - Feline
The symptoms of hyperthyroidism are caused by an overproduction of thyroid hormones. This stimulates the metabolism. Iodine is vital for the production of thyroid hormones. Hill's Feline y/d Thyroid Health is an iodine-restricted food, which helps to inhibit the production of thyroid hormones. You will usually see a drop in thyroid hormones within 4 weeks.
Hyperthyroidism in cats
Hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid, is a common condition in cats that are over 10 years old. Usually it concerns a benign tumour, causing the thyroid gland to create excessive amounts of thyroid hormones, which negatively effect the function of multiple organs. Symptoms that may indicate thyroid problems are: increased thirst, increased urination, losing weight even though the cat eats well, restless behaviour, poor grooming, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Recommended for
Nutritional support for hyperthyroidism in cats.

Recommendation for changing the current diet to Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health
- Introduce Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health gradually over a period of 7 days.
- Mix Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health with your cat's normal food.
- Use an increasing amount of the new food until it is 100% Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health.
- Speak with your veterinarian first, if your cat is prescribed any anti-thyroid drugs.
Please note
Iodine from other dietary sources - from snacks, the food of other pets, eating leftovers - can limit the efficacy of a low iodine diet. It is very important that Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health is the cat's only source of food. If the cat ingests iodine again, more thyroid hormones will be produced and the symptoms will reoccur. For cats who go outside, there is the risk that they will eat something that contains iodine. The treatment then may not work!
