    Hill's y/d - Thyroid Care - Prescription Diet - Feline

The symptoms of hyperthyroidism are caused by an overproduction of thyroid hormones. This stimulates the metabolism. Iodine is vital for the production of thyroid hormones. Hill's Feline y/d Thyroid Health is an iodine-restricted food, which helps to inhibit the production of thyroid hormones. You will usually see a drop in thyroid hormones within 4 weeks.

    Hyperthyroidism in cats

Hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid, is a common condition in cats that are over 10 years old. Usually it concerns a benign tumour, causing the thyroid gland to create excessive amounts of thyroid hormones, which negatively effect the function of multiple organs. Symptoms that may indicate thyroid problems are: increased thirst, increased urination, losing weight even though the cat eats well, restless behaviour, poor grooming, vomiting and diarrhoea.

    Recommended for

Nutritional support for hyperthyroidism in cats.

    Key benefits

    • Scientifically proven food for improving the health of cats' thyroid glands.
    • Improves the health of the thyroid gland in 3 weeks (results vary).
    • The low iodine content in the food helps to normalise the production of thyroid hormone (T4).
    • The food is an easy treatment, so no further medication is required.
    • Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health is a complete daily diet and has a flavour that cats will love.
    • The diet is available in dry or wet food.
    • Controlled amounts of phosphorus and magnesium support the kidneys and urinary tract.
    • A high amount of Omega-3 fatty acids help support healthy kidneys.
    • Supports healthy heart function with high amounts of L-carnitine and taurine.
    • The food creates urine with a pH of 6.4-6.6, which is gentle on the urinary tract.

Also available in Hill's y/d Thyroid Care - Prescription Diet - Feline dry food.

    Not suitable for

Kittens and pregnant or lactating cats.

Recommendation for changing the current diet to Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health:

    • Introduce Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health gradually over a period of 7 days.
    • Mix Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health with your cat's normal food.
    • Use an increasing amount of the new food until it is 100% Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health.
    • Speak with your veterinarian first, if your cat is prescribed any anti-thyroid drugs.

    Please note!

Iodine from other dietary sources - from snacks, the food of other pets, eating leftovers - can limit the efficacy of a low iodine diet. It is very important that Hill's y/d - Thyroid Health is the cat's only source of food. If the cat ingests iodine again, more thyroid hormones will be produced and the symptoms will reoccur. For cats who go outside, there is the risk that they will eat something that contains iodine. The treatment then may not work!

  • Yd cat food
By Caroline Swinney, Sunday 28 January 2024

My cat will try it at first but then won’t eat any more. I have added a small amount of water to soften it as suggested by vet but still no luck. I have mixed it with usual food but she can pick out usual food and leaves yd. So am afraid I have wasted my money and the lack of choice of food makes it difficult. She doesn’t even care for dried food. 😔
