Product Description
Laminitis
Laminitis is a very painful and complex hoof disease, which damages the laminae between the coffin bone and the hoof wall. Flexing the flexor tendon at the back of the coffin bone may cause the coffin bone to rotate, which might even cause the tip to penetrate the sole. A horse suffering from laminitis will try to reduce the pain by carrying its weight with its hind legs, which gives the horse a very characteristic stance. Possible causes for laminitis are an unbalanced diet, problems with the placenta after giving birth and Cushing’s disease (PPID). Laminitis may also occur when a horse overburdens one of its legs as a result of an injury on another leg.
