    Royal Canin Hepatic Dog

Copper can accumulate in the liver and seriously disrupt liver function. The low copper content and increased levels of zinc in Royal Canin Hepatic Dog limit copper accumulation in liver and damage to cells. A specific combination of antioxidants can help slow damage to the liver cells, and reduced sodium content helps to fight high blood pressure in the liver and reduce the risk of fluid accumulation in the abdomen (ascites). Animals with liver problems require a diet with a high energy content. Thanks to an increased fat content, this food provides the energy required and prevents the breakdown of bodily protein, reducing the risk of hepatic encephalopathy.

    Liver Disease

Liver disease is relatively common in dogs. In recent years, great progress has been made in discovering the causes of liver disease and improving treatment methods. Specialist foods, such as Royal Canin Hepatic Dog, play an important role in the treatment of liver disease.

  • Meets expectations.
By Nick Murray, Friday 13 January 2023

This food was recommended by our vet because of a liver problem with our dog. He isn't in love with it but he does eat it grudgingly. However, it certainly has made a difference to him over the months. He is more lively and bright of eye than before so it's doing the job it was meant to do.

  • Seems to be effective!
By Nick, Tuesday 18 October 2022

This food was recommended by our vet following a blood test on our dog. It showed a problem with his liver. We have fed him this for a few months and there is a definite improvement in him generally & his liver function has greatly improved. We will continue this for about 6 months in total & then retest again & then go from there. It took some time for him to get used to the food as it's rather different from normal, but he now tucks in as he used to do!

  • Constipation
By Sandra Sharp, Saturday 17 October 2020

My 10year old dog has raised Liver enzymes. We have gradually changed her to RC hepatic over the last week. She enjoys it and it is not causing sickness. However she seems to be becoming a bit constipated. Have you other comments about this food causing constipation??

    Answer from Medpets

Dear Sandra, We're glad to hear that Royal Canin Hepatic Dog is helping your dog with her liver problems. There haven't been any other comments about the food causing constipation, however, it could be caused by the lower fibre content in the food. If your dog is still constipated after a couple of days or if you're unsure about the situation, it's always recommended to consult your veterinarian. He or she can then determine the cause of the problem and possibly suggest adding extra fibres to the food. Hopefully your dog will feel better soon! Best regards, Team Vetsend

  • Brilliant product
By Shena Thompson , Tuesday 30 June 2020

This is the only food that my poor little Chi can eat. It saved his life at 4mths, and he has lived 3yrs over the vet's prediction of 4yrs (if we were lucky) so far. He's a happy little chappie and I'm so lucky to have him.
