Recognising and preventing food hypersensitivity

There are various symptoms that are associated with food intolerances. For instance, as a pet owner you might observe excessive licking, red skin and hair loss. Pets sometimes also suffer from diarrhoea or abdominal pain. Whenever you notice any of these symptoms, it’s always recommended to consult your vet for a closer examination.

Why should I feed my pet hypoallergenic food?

Complaints are frequently caused by proteins. Royal Canin Hypoallergenic makes sure that these proteins are excluded so the food is less likely to cause an adverse reaction. To make sure your pet still gets all the nutrients they need, it uses selected ingredients and largely avoids using animal protein sources. This also means avoiding treats that could possibly include proteins. After all, even the smallest amount of protein can trigger an allergic reaction.

Hypoallergenic food with valuable ingredients

The terms intolerance and allergies are quite commonly used to describe the source of health complaints in pets. When animals suffer from allergies, even the smallest amounts of allergens can cause an adverse reaction. Royal Canin Hypoallergenic is enriched with key ingredients that pets need to stay healthy and fit. It contains many important vitamins, minerals and nutrients that have an optimal effect on the intestinal flora and thus promote your pet’s wellbeing and health. EPA and DHA, long-chain fatty acids from the omega-3 family, have a positive effect on the skin. The food also uses hydrolysed proteins that are easy to digest. Plus, since the protein is cut into tiny pieces, they’re less likely to cause an allergic reaction. The Hypoallergenic diet is also completely free of artificial additives. Changing diets

Whenever you’re changing your pet to a new type of food, it’s important to do this gradually. This allows the body to adapt to the new diet. Mix the Hypoallergenic food with your pet’s current food, starting with a small amount of new food (4:1 ratio). Add a little more of the new food each day until your pet starts tolerating this diet.
