This type of hay is enriched with different herbs, which can make it smell and taste nicer. The type of herbs can vary from nettle, to chamomile, peppermint, etc. Barn-i has different types of herbal hay to choose from.

How much hay does a rabbit eat per day?

The amount of hay a rodent eats depends on several factors, such as the type of rodent, age, and weight. Rodents, including rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas may have unlimited access to hay. This means they can eat as much hay as they want.

Hay for hamsters

Hamsters may also have hay, but unlike rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas, hay is not a primary food source for hamsters. Hamsters mainly eat seeds, grains, vegetables and insects. You can, however, give hay as a supplement.

What is the difference between hay and straw?

Hay and straw are both commonly used for rodents and come from dried grains and grasses. These products differ only in use, composition and nutritional values. Hay consists mainly of dried grasses such as timothy and meadow grass. This grass is harvested when the grass is mature but not yet flowering. This ensures a high nutrient and fibre content. Straw consists of dried stalks of grains. When the grains are removed, it is harvested leaving only the stalks. Straw is used as bedding and provides insulation and comfort. Hay, on the other hand, is used as food for rodents. Hay is high in fibre and contributes to good digestion, straw has low fibre content and therefore low nutritional value. Straw is thus more likely to be used as a functional material.
