6 tips for summer!

1. Hydrate adequately

Like people, pets can quickly become dehydrated in the heat. Make sure fresh water is always available for your pet, especially when they are outside. Take a portable drinking bowl with you during walks and let your pet drink regularly.

2. Watch out for overheating

Pets can easily overheat, especially on hot summer days. Make sure they have access to shady areas and avoid leaving them outside for too long, especially during the hottest part of the day. Watch for signs of overheating such as panting, lethargy, and excessive drooling, and seek cooling immediately if you notice these symptoms.

3. Cooling treats

Treat your dog to delicious popsicles filled with dog-friendly ingredients like fruit and broth. Or try the Smoofl Ice Mix for dogs. And for the ultimate chill out, consider a dedicated dog pool where your loyal four-legged friend can splash and play!

4. Watch out for sensitive paws

The asphalt can get extremely hot during the summer months, and burns on the bottoms of your pet’s feet can be the result of walking on hot surfaces for too long. Try to plan walks during cooler hours of the day, such as early in the morning or late in the evening, and consider using special pet shoes to protect their feet.

5. Never leave alone in the car

Even with the windows slightly open, the temperature in a car can quickly become dangerously high for pets. Never leave your pet in a parked car, even for a short time. If you want to take your pet with you while you run errands or do other activities, make sure they can be taken inside with you or leave them at home in the cool.

6. Protection against parasites

Summer often brings with it an increase in fleas, ticks and other parasites. Make sure your pet is up to date with their parasite prevention, such as flea and tick treatments. Check regularly for ticks after spending time outdoors and use a tick remover if necessary.
