    Food hypersensitivity

Food hypersensitivity means that your cat is allergic or intolerant to certain ingredients in its food. This can be treated with special diet foods containing ingredients to which the cat will not have a hypersensitive reaction. The food hypersensitivity diagnosis is made based on the results of an elimination diet. Such a diet is sometimes referred to as hypoallergenic, and includes a single protein and a single source of carbohydrates which are known to rarely cause a hypersensitive reaction.

Key features of TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat

TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat contains a single protein source (venison) and a single carbohydrate source (rice). This should be the only food your cat eats for a period of 3-8 weeks. This diet prevents immunological reactions (food allergy), or non-immunological reactions (food intolerance) in the form of skin complaints and/or gastrointestinal complaints. Please note that not all complaints will immediately diminish or disappear. For example, skin conditions will only improve gradually. If symptoms reduce or disappear, an intolerance can be diagnosed. TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat also contains all of the vitamins and minerals your cat needs from day to day in optimal quantities.

    Recommended for

    • Food allergy
    • Food intolerance

TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) is also suitable for kittens with these conditions.

    Not suitable for

Animals with a hypersensitivity to venison protein

    Use

Initially, the recommended treatment duration is 3 to 8 weeks. If symptoms disappear, the diet can be continued indefinitely. Strict observance of this diet is very important for a successful diagnosis.

Composition of TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat:

TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat can be combined with Multi Purpose Treats (Fish). Please note: This does not apply during the elimination phase.

  • Quality cat food - hypoallergenic venison
By Paul, Friday 14 March 2025

We adopted a beautiful 4 year old male black cat recently that really loves his food. Problem was that he started to get a skin allergy that brought him out in sores and caused hair loss. Our vet gave him steroids which cleared his condition but we didn’t want to rely on steroids as it would possibly mean being jabbed for the rest of his life with side affects. He had an allergy test which showed up as him being allergic to most food types so our vet said try a single protein diet We have been given him trovet hypoallergenic Venison from Vetsend twice a day(reduced portion) along with a vegan dry food twice a day for about 6 weeks now and his condition has cleared up Early days but the signs are good. He wolfs the food down and his coat is so shiny and thick Yes the food is more expensive as it’s Venison but when you compare it against the cost of the steroids and how healthy he looks then it’s all worth it.

My cat has IBD and small cell intestinal lymphoma, and so needs a novel protein hypoallergenic diet. He has loved this from the first bite, and it has not upset his stomach like other foods can

Vet recommended this but our cat refused to eat it

  • Great but expensive
By Jane, Wednesday 24 July 2024

My cat has now been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and is now on a specialised diet for the rest of her life. She has always been quite picky on her food but loves the venison so we have had no trouble with switching her to the new food. Just wish it was cheaper...

  • Trovet…..No Vet!!
By Claire Groves, Thursday 6 June 2024

Sadly I can only give 1 star as the review is for the product. My cat would not go near it. He hated it. It could be because it’s got rice mixed in. It’s quite dry. I added a teaspoon of water and warmed it up to try and entice him but he’s having none of it! I put it outside for the foxes and they ate it but it’s a very expensive product to give away when I needed it for my cat who has food allergies.
